Jacob Kiplimo Set for Chicago Marathon Test — Eyes on Glory and a Possible Record
Chicago, USA — Uganda’s long-distance sensation Jacob Kiplimo is set to take on the Bank of Chicago Marathon this Sunday, October 12, 2025, starting at 7:00 a.m. (local time) in the United States.
The 24-year-old, who currently holds the half-marathon world record, will be lining up among a star-studded field of elite marathoners, aiming to carry Uganda’s flag high once again on one of the world’s fastest courses.
Kiplimo, known for his powerful finishes and remarkable consistency, continues to silence doubters as he transitions from dominance on the track and half-marathon circuit to full marathon racing.
“That day, I was just going there to run a good race, but unfortunately, I got the record,” Kiplimo recalled with a smile, speaking about his astonishing 56:42 half-marathon record set in Barcelona last February.
After making his marathon debut at the 2025 London Marathon, Kiplimo impressed the athletics world by clocking 2:03:00, finishing second behind Kenya’s Sebastian Sawe — a performance that instantly established him as a serious marathon contender.
This Sunday, the Ugandan star will return to challenge the world marathon record of 2:00:35, set by the late Kelvin Kiptum on the same Chicago course in 2024. The race, starting at 720 Chicago Avenue, will attract thousands of athletes and spectators from around the globe, all eager to witness another chapter in marathon history.
As Uganda’s golden boy of long-distance running, Kiplimo remains focused and determined to prove that his success on the track and half-marathon stage can translate into full marathon dominance.
Whether or not the record falls, one thing is certain — Jacob Kiplimo’s presence in Chicago will bring excitement, pride, and hope to Ugandan athletics once again.
