2026 FIFA World Cup Q: Put Names Eleven CHAN Squad Players, Onyango Returns.

Eleven (11) local baseled players that have been part of the on-going TotalEnergies CHAN 2024 tournament have been considered by Uganda Cranes Head Coach Paul Put while announced the squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Mozambique and Somalia.

CHAN team starman Allan Okello Jude Ssemugabi, SC wingers Reagan Mpande and Patrick Kakande are among the forwards considered.

Gavin Kizito and Hebert Achai both KCCA FC players and Vipers SC duo; Hilary Mukundane and Rogers Torach are defenders given chance along with BUL Goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa.


Midfielders Joel Serunjongi, Abdul Karim Watambala will fight for starting places with foreign based trio; Ssemakula, Ssekiganda and Travis Mutyaba summoned.

In the same presser, former Uganda Cranes captain and goalkeeper Denis Onyango who had announced his retirement from international football in April 2021, citing personal reasons and the desire to allow younger players to compete for the national team, Onyango has now returned from that retirement and has been included in the Uganda Cranes squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September 2025

The significant development is believed that will boost the team’s hopes for AFCON 2025 qualification.

Onyango returns boasts the Cranes goalkeeping department with fellow PSL based colleague Salim Magoola, Nafian Alionzi and Mutakubwa available

Uganda will face Somalia on Friday 5th at 7:00 pm at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, before taking on Mozambique on Monday 8th at the same venue and time.

The squad includes 11 players from the TotalEnergies CHAN 2024, with the remainder playing abroad. The team will enter residential camp on Sunday 31st at FUFA Hotel, Kisaasi. The squad comprises three goalkeepers, ten defenders, five midfielders, and nine forwards.
