Lwakataka Shines at Mbarara Rally Opener

Ponsiano Lwakataka launched his 2025 National Rally Championship (NRC) campaign in style, clinching victory at the season opener in Mbarara. The two-day rally, which concluded on Saturday, was the first of seven events scheduled for the championship calendar, and it delivered an electrifying start to the motorsport season.

Driving his Subaru N12B with precision and flair, Lwakataka completed the rally in a blistering time of 1 hour, 12 minutes, and 59.4 seconds over the 140.64km competitive distance spread across seven sections. His remarkable performance earned him a record-extending fifth Mbarara Rally title, reaffirming his dominance on Uganda’s rally scene.

A Battle of Skill and Strategy

Lwakataka faced stiff competition from a strong field of experienced drivers, but his skill and consistency ultimately set him apart. The rally’s challenging stages tested both man and machine, but Lwakataka’s Subaru N12B proved reliable, handling the demanding terrain with ease.

Speaking after his victory, Lwakataka expressed his gratitude to his team and supporters, emphasizing the hard work that went into achieving the win.

This was not an easy rally. The competition was tough, but we stayed focused and executed our plan. I’m happy to start the season on a high note,” he said.

A Special Dedication

The rally was made even more memorable by the involvement of legendary driver Moses Lumala, who celebrated 60 years of life and his mother’s 80th birthday during the event. Lumala generously contributed funding to the rally, ensuring its success and leaving a lasting impression on the motorsport community.
