Express FC has officially parted ways with head coach Baker Mbowa following a disappointing 1-0 loss to Lugazi. The announcement was made in an undated statement released on Saturday, October 26, 2024, and signed by the club’s CEO, Ashraf Miiro.
“The management of Express FC would like to inform the general public that it has parted ways with its Head Coach Baker Mbowa. This was after mutual consent between the two parties,” the statement read, confirming a decision that reflects the club’s urgent need for a change in direction.
In the interim, Badru Kaddu has been appointed to lead the team as they look to turn their fortunes around. This change comes on the heels of a dismal start to the season, with Express currently sitting in ninth place in the Uganda Premier League (UPL) standings, having accumulated only eight points from six matches.
Mbowa, who was appointed head coach on March 5, 2024, under a two-year contract, lasted just eight months in the role. During his tenure, the Red Eagles managed to secure only three wins out of 16 matches in all competitions, suffering 11 defeats and drawing two. His leadership yielded just two victories in the opening six league games, which led to mounting pressure from both fans and club management.
The decision to relieve Mbowa of his duties marks a significant moment in Express FC’s campaign, as they aim to regain their competitive edge in the league. The club has already seen a number of coaching changes across the Premier League this season, with Mbowa becoming the fourth coach to lose his job, joining Richard Malinga (Mbale Heroes), Nikola Kavazovic (Vipers), and Sadick Sempigi (Lugazi FC).
Kaddu, who has experience in interim coaching roles, previously stepped in at KCCA FC after Morley Byekwaso’s resignation. However, his stint there ended in a 2-0 defeat to URA FC. Now, he faces the challenge of revitalizing Express FC ahead of a crucial away match against Wakiso Giants FC at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium on October 31.
As Kaddu takes the reins, fans and stakeholders will be watching closely to see how he navigates this pivotal period for the club. The Red Eagles are eager to reverse their fortunes and build momentum under his leadership, aiming to improve their standing in the UPL and restore confidence among supporters.
With a significant opportunity ahead, Express FC hopes that Kaddu can harness his experience to lead the team back to winning ways and ensure a more successful season moving forward.
