Douglas Oyirwoth has penned down a one-year contract with the top-tier league Kitara FC.
The 27-year-old left-back Oyirwoth was a free agent after his four-year contract with UPDF FC expired, and negotiations failed for him to renew another one. This will see him feature for the Royals in the upcoming 2024/25 Uganda Premier League season.
Speaking to Sports256, Douglas revealed that he is happy to have united with his former coach Brian Sseyondo and is ready for the new challenges and winning trophies at Kitara Football Club.
“I am ready for the new challenge,” Oyirwoth said. “I’m happy to be back working with Coach Brian, and I can’t wait to help Kitara FC achieve their goals this season.”
The player also had offers from Express FC and URA FC but decided to join the Royals camp.
Douglas Oyirwoth, known by many as the “Luo boy,” has played for several clubs in Uganda, including Synergy FC, Mbarara City Football Club, and UPDF Football Club.
Kitara FC will represent Uganda in the CAF Confederations Cup, where they will play against Al-Hilal Benghazi from Libya.
The Masindi-based club has also signed new players, including center-back Ronald Otti, Titus Ssematimba, and Marvin Nyanzi from Wakiso Giants FC, as well as striker Fred Amaku from Maroons FC.
