Holders Vipers SC face off with BUL FC away from home in the Quarter Finals of the Pilsner Super 8 Cup on Thursday 10th August 2023, at the FUFA technical center in Njeru.
The tournament that acts as a curtain-riser of the new season, is aimed at preparing the teams for the new season, kicks off on Thursday with two games.
As the Venoms travel miles to Eastern Uganda to face Bidco, the Jogoos will host Maroons at Muteesa II stadium Wankulukuku.
The Venoms that won the last edition when they defeated KCCA FC 2-0, have a tricky trip to Jinja to face a tough BUL side.
Striker Fahad Bayo’s brace gave the Venoms their maiden Super 8 Cup in 2019 which they will look up to defend.
For starters, the Pilsner FUFA Super 8 Cup is played by clubs that finished in the first 8 positions of the previous Uganda Premier League Season.
The teams were, Vipers SC, KCCA FC, SC Villa, URA FC, BUL FC, Wakiso Giants, Maroons and Arua Hills SC.
But for this edition, Arua Hill, will not play in the Super 8 competition because they failed to meet the FUFA Lincesing requirements and Bright Stars took advantage to feature in this competition.
The last time these two teams faced off ended in a 1-1 draw. And what makes the contest a tricky one, the Eastern giants defeated Vipers 3-1 to win their first ever Stanbic Uganda Cup title.
This tournament prepares these clubs ahead of the new season which is Set to begin in September.
Vipers SC after parting ways with Alex Isabirye who won a double last season, acquired Leonard Neiva as new head coach and will look up to winning this year’s Super 8 title as his first task.
The Venoms have boasted their squad ahead of the new season with arrivals that include; Brazilian Giancarlo Rodriguez, Grant Matsiko, Patrick Mboowa, David Bagoole, Fumador Awisome, Richard Matovu and Muhamed Salem.
This tie, will be the first competitive game both new managers Abbey Bogere Kikomeko at BUL FC and Brazilian coach Leonardo Martins Neiva for Vipers SC.
The Eastern giants have also boasted their squad with exciting midfielder Edrine Opaala, goal keeper Joel Mutakubwa strikers! Joel Madondo and Lawrence Tezikya, among others.
The Losers of the Quarter finals will play a classification games that will determine the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th positions.
The semi-final loosers will also play classification games to determine the 3rd and 4th placed teams.
The finals of the pilsner FUFA Super 8, will be played at a venue and date yet to be communicated.
