Teenager Aggrey ‘Mbappe’ Nyombi dreaming of playing professional football in Europe, target top tier football at just 16 years of age.
St Julian High School exciting winger Aggrey Nyombi inspired by France and PSG star Kylian Mbappe, shared his targets and football dream in a lengthy interview with this site.
Nyombi currently a S.4 student at the Gayaza based football giants, plays for Kampala regional league club Black stars Masanafu in the 3rd tier of Ugandan football pyramid.
His side defeated CATDA in spot kicks to emerge champions of Kampala region and will face Buganda Region champions Kiyinda boys for a place in the FUFA Big league season.
The hugely talented young star full of confidence, believes, this is the right time for him to represent his country at any junior level.
” I feel am now ready to represent my country at any under age team most especially at U-17, and now my immediate target is to get a top tier club when am still a student so that it can easily help me achieve my professional footall target.”
” I believe if I play for the national junior teams now, it will help me achieve my dream of playing professional football in Europe in the near future.” He added.
St Julian head coach Daniel Ssegawa, who recruited him to join the school, believes the young star has what it takes to make it to the top if he remains focused.
” He is a young skilled, determined, hardworking boy, If he manages him self well, he is a boy to watch in near future and he is destined for greatness.” Ssegawa stated.
Nyombi scored two goals at the district, three in the zonal qaulifiers and created numerous chances for his school at the nationals in Fortportal.
Mbappe as his close pals love calling him, comes from a family with some football background, with only his dad Abbey Bikompo who played football to the top level in Uganda with KCCA FC.
Nyombi’s father Bikompo, also played for Simba SC and the national U-20 team.
Knick-named Mbappe, Nyombi was inspired by the PSG star to play the game as he states;
” By that time I was in P4 at Sure Prospect, so we were watching the Final between France and Croatia, so from the group stages, Mbappe impressed me so much, he was using the ball so well, comfortable so, I loved his style and from then I started practicing what he does and that’s how I also play. And he was playing on the flanks like me and then i even changed the jersey number to his when he was still at Monaco.”
Nyombi has got backup of the parents now, who had earlier didnot wish him to Play the game.
” At first my dad wasn’t supportive but he is now ok with me to play. Because from P.3, I haven’t been paying any school fees since when I was at Sure Prospect with coach Stephen Kintu.”
His talent has helped him attain free education at St Andrews, St Johns Mukono, Devine College, St Jude Masaka and now St Julian.
St Julian defeated Light College Nansana to qualify for the Nationals in Fortportal. And this is Nyombi’s greatest moment in his playing career so far.
” There is no special day in my playing career like when I helped my school Qualify for the National Post Primaries.”
Nyombi is a trickery winger who is comfortable in possession and loves carrying the ball forward
In an extensive interview with this site, the teenager pointed at his best teammate and toughest opponents.
” I have enjoyed playing football with many players but if am to pick out one has to be Issa Kisuuke of Masanafu Black Stars and my toughest ever is Patrick Mbowa of URA FC.”
Nyombi wishes to play for Vipers SC and SC Villa in Uganda and Arsenal
Locally, Nyombi supports Kyetume FC and Arsenal internationally.
Speaking about the number 13 lucky jersey; “My first attempt to wear the no 13 short at St Julian, I performed well and i scored 2 goals. So am so greatful to coach Dan Ssegawa who signed me at St Julian.”
In his conclusive remarks, Nyombi was greatful to individuals that have been there for him since when he started his football career.
” I would love in a special way to thank coach Stephen’s Ferguson Kintu, coach Mbusi Issa, coach Eremiah Kato of Rays of Grace now at KQ, Lidondo (Mydel) and coach Ian.”
” Mr Serunjogi Patrick has also been very supportive in many ways, Reagan Banja, manager Suubi, David Kabaale and Micheal Katabira.” He concluded.
Now at St Julian, he attended St Andrew’s Lugazi, St John’s Mukono, Devine college wakiso and St Jude Masaka before joining Gayaza.
Nyombi an exciting winger with quick feet, is a product of Rays of Grace football academy, also attended Mydel, Talent Bridge S.A, Mivule Soccer academy among others.
Now playing for Regional league side Masanafu black stars, the young star has also played for Mydel and Vega.
At 16, Nyombi was part of the Black stars 25an squad that eliminated CATDA in the Kampala Region playoff and his side will face Kiyinda boys for a place in the FUFA big league next season.
