Ghanian Laryea Kingston Appointed Head Coach of Uganda’s National Junior Men’s Teams

Former Ghanaian international and ex-Black Starlets head coach, Laryea Kingston, has been appointed as the Head Coach of Uganda’s National Men’s Junior Teams on a two-year contract.

The appointment was officially announced by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) on Wednesday, October 8, during Kingston’s unveiling at FUFA House.

“FUFA CEO Edgar Watson has today unveiled Laryea Kingston as the Head Coach of all Uganda National Men’s Football Junior Teams for the next two years,” FUFA confirmed in an official statement.

Kingston, who holds a UEFA A and CAF B Coaching License, will oversee the U17 and U20 national teams, focusing on developing young talent and strengthening Uganda’s junior football structures through 2027.

Meanwhile, Brian Ssenyondo will continue as U17 head coach ahead of the upcoming FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar, expected next month. FUFA clarified that this will be Ssenyondo’s final assignment at that level, though he remains open for future national team roles.

Before taking up his Ugandan appointment, Kingston spent two years in charge of Ghana’s U17 team (Black Starlets) and also held a managerial role with RPS Academies in the United States. He notably led the Black Starlets during the WAFU B U17 Cup of Nations hosted in Ghana last year.

With his extensive experience in youth development, Kingston’s arrival marks a bold step in Uganda’s mission to elevate its junior football programs to continental and global standards.
