The football fraternity in Entebbe is buzzing with excitement as Uganda’s top-flight football officially returns to the city after seven years.

Formerly known as Gaddafi FC, the institutional side rebranded to Entebbe UPPC FC and will now compete at the highest level of Ugandan football. Under the guidance of head coach Abdallah Mubiru, the team will be aiming for victory against fellow debutants Buhimba Saints FC in their maiden fixture.

Entebbe City last enjoyed UPL action in 2018, when Masavu FC featured in the top tier. The return of league football is therefore being celebrated as a revival of the city’s rich football culture.

To strengthen their squad, the club has recruited several notable players including Issa Bugembe, Julius Poloto, Alou Kokas, Isa Mubiru, Noordin Bunjo, Kigozi Ambrose, Mustafa Mujuzi, Steven Munguchi, Odongo Jonathan, Kyeyune Muhammed, Rogers Omedwa, Hassan Ssenyonjo, and Denis Otim.

With the new UPL season kicking off under a fresh league format, all eyes will be on Entebbe as the football city embarks on this new journey.
