Kakaire Embarks on New Journey with Mbarara City FC

Skillful midfielder Thomas Kakaire has signed a two-year contract with the Ankole Lions, marking his return to Mbarara City FC.

The former Uganda U-17 international joins as a free agent after failing to reach an agreement on contract renewal with Entebbe UPPC FC.

“It’s where I started my professional career and I’m very happy to be back at Mbarara City. I’m here to help the team achieve its targets ahead of the new season,” Kakaire said during his unveiling.

He further revealed the team’s ambitions, noting that their initial goal is to finish in the top eight by the end of the first round and later challenge for the championship.

For context, Kakaire was instrumental in guiding Entebbe UPPC FC (formerly Gaddafi FC) to promotion into the Uganda Premier League, serving as captain during their historic campaign.

This move marks his second stint with Mbarara City FC, having previously featured for the Ankole Lions earlier in his career. He has also turned out for Sofapaka FC and Entebbe UPPC FC.

The midfielder’s arrival adds depth and experience to the squad, which has also recruited Oscar Ssesazi and Ian Amanya ahead of the new season.

Mbarara City FC will kick off their campaign with an away fixture against Police FC.
