LAMENNAIS TOURNAMENT: DEBUTANTS NEBBI TOWN SS SET FOR HISTORIC PARTICIPATION
The countdown is on for the prestigious Lamennais Tournament — the oldest Catholic-founded schools sports competition in the country — and this year promises something special.
For the first time in the tournament’s history, Nebbi Town Secondary School will make its debut, traveling an impressive 794 kilometers from West Nile to the host school, Bishop Comboni College Kambuga, in Kanungu District.
Founded on Catholic values, Nebbi Town SS is a mixed day and boarding school guided by the motto “Knowledge is Power.” Their inclusion marks a significant milestone, both for the school and the tournament itself.
“We are thrilled and honored to be part of this year’s Lamennais Tournament. It’s our first time, and we look forward to sharing joyful moments and building strong bonds with fellow Mennaisian schools,” said Headteacher Br. Kizito Mukalazi Senior ahead of the tournament kickoff.
The 2025 edition will feature spirited competition in boys’ and girls’ football, chess, and tennis, bringing together Catholic-founded schools from across Uganda for a week of sportsmanship, unity, and spiritual growth.
This year’s theme — “Somewhere, Someone Is Waiting for You” — reflects the tournament’s mission to foster faith, friendship, and purpose among young learners.
Among the participating schools are:
- Bishop Comboni College Kambuga (Host)
- St. Charles Lwanga SSS, Kasasa
- St. Mary’s College, Kisubi
- Caltec Academy, Makerere
- Uganda Martyrs High School, Lubaga
- Lamennais SS, Kyotera
- St. Edward’s SS, Bukuumi
- St. John Fisher Ibanda SS
- St. Henry’s College, Kitovu
With excitement building and preparations in full swing, the stage is set for a truly memorable tournament. All eyes will be on Nebbi Town SS as they aim to make history in their debut appearance.
