MTN MoMo Asserts Dominance in Sports Ticketing as Partnership with Uganda Rugby Union is Renewed
MTN MoMo has reaffirmed its strategic commitment to Ugandan sports by renewing its partnership with the Uganda Rugby Union (URU), solidifying its growing influence in local sports ticketing.
Speaking on behalf of MTN MoMo CEO Richard Yego during a signing ceremony held Friday morning at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, Dennis Kakonge—General Manager Corporate and Legal Services—emphasized the brand’s continued investment in sports development and fan engagement.
MTN MoMo has become a force in local sports ticketing. Our continued partnership with the Uganda Rugby Union is a testament to our commitment to not only easing access to tickets but also boosting the growth of sports in Uganda, Kakonge stated.
The renewed partnership deal, whose financial details remain undisclosed, is set to facilitate the organization of the upcoming Rugby Africa Cup 2024, a continental showpiece slated for July. Uganda will kick off its campaign with a highly anticipated clash against rivals Kenya on July 8.
The Rugby Africa Cup serves as a pathway to the 2027 Rugby World Cup, offering Uganda’s Rugby Cranes a vital opportunity to compete on the global stage. In the previous edition, Uganda narrowly lost 20–22 to Zimbabwe in a dramatic opener—an early setback that eventually derailed their tournament progression.
With MTN MoMo’s continued support, both in digital ticketing and broader operational capacity, the Uganda Rugby Union is optimistic about improving the fan experience and delivering a successful continental tournament.
