Buganda Regional Zone 3 Mini League Playoffs: Garuga Stars, Matugga United Drop Points
The Buganda Regional Zone 3 Mini League playoffs are underway, with matches hosted over three days by the Kassanda District Football Association (DFA).
The competition format features teams divided into groups, battling it out for spots in the quarterfinals and semifinals. The eventual winner of the final will earn direct promotion to the Buganda Regional League.
Tuesday Results Round-Up:
Garuga Stars FC 0–1 Jjeeza United FC
Wakiso-based Garuga Stars FC suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Mityana’s Jjeeza United FC. Despite dominating possession and creating several scoring chances, Garuga failed to capitalize. Forward David Ssekyanzi missed two clear-cut opportunities that could have changed the outcome.
Jjeeza United, on the other hand, were clinical, converting their only major opportunity of the match to secure all three points. The result leaves Garuga Stars second in their group with three points, and they now face a must-win clash against Kassanda FC on Thursday to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Matugga United 1–1 Kassanda FC
Wakiso District champions Matugga United also dropped crucial points, settling for a 1-1 draw with hosts Kassanda FC. Matugga took an early lead within the first five minutes of the match and looked set to dominate, but failed to extend their advantage before halftime.
Kassanda FC responded strongly in the second half, applying consistent pressure. Their efforts were rewarded in the dying minutes when a goalkeeping error following a free-kick allowed their striker to tap home the equalizer.
The hosts pushed for a winner and created several chances but were unable to convert, leaving both sides with a point each. Matugga United now sits bottom of Group B with just one point, and will need a win in their final group game against Jjeeza United to reach the knockout stage.
