Henry Gama won his first ever match as newly appointed Bunyoro Province Head coach when he defeated Rwenzori Province 3-2 at home to take first leg advantage in the preminary round of the FUFA Drum tournament 2025.

Bunyoro Province XI that faced Rwenzori.

We haven’t performed that well in the past that’s why we had to play this qualifier tie to take us to the group stage level and am happy I won the first game in charge of this Bunyoro national team and now looking forward for the most important one away from home. It wasn’t that a very convincing home win because I wanted a win with a bigger goal margin but with a few mistakes, we conceded twice which was indeed bad but we are working on the gray areas and also, we got an opportunity to understand how this Rwenzori team plays because we didn’t know much about them in the first leg. But what I can promise is we are preparing very well to go out there to defend our win or even going for three points to make it to group stages.” Gama stressed.

Gama speaking to this site, he as well hinted on developing regional young talents as one of their targets this season and also highlighted on some of the star players he missed in the first leg.

We decided to blend SUPL stars, with FBL and regional league players because in this Drum tournament, we as well look at developing some young talents so that even when the old guns retire we have the young blood to replace them, players like Alfred Kizza are really doing well.” Gama told Sports256.

“Kitara playing in Uganda Cup in one way cost us because we missed our first choice goal keeper Crispus Kusiima, striker Goerge Ssenkaba, Ethiopia based Gift Fred was also missed in our defence and as well we expect others experienced players like Brian Ahebwa and this time round we want to make a statement with the management.” Gama added.

We have the quality in our squad, so my immediate target is to help the team reach the group stages and as well, for the first time in history help the team progress from the group stage and push as far as we go, and to the big number of fans here, we know we have the 12th player to push us as far as we can go, but most importantly, the fans should be positive we work together push our players and province to go further progress from the group stages, then into the knock out stage and as well go for the biggest prize this season – that’s winning the title.” he added
