Jacob Kiplimo Smashes World Half Marathon Record in Barcelona
Ugandan long-distance sensation Jacob Kiplimo delivered a historic performance at the eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona by Brooks, a World Athletics Gold Label road race, on Sunday . The 24-year-old two-time world cross country champion set a stunning world half marathon record of 56:41, shattering the previous mark by an astonishing 49 seconds.
Kiplimo’s remarkable feat surpassed the previous record of 57:30, set by Yomif Kejelcha. This is the greatest single improvement ever recorded for the men’s world half marathon, making his achievement even more extraordinary.
Competing in near-perfect conditions of 13ºC with no wind, Kiplimo became the first athlete in history to break the 57-minute barrier over the half marathon distance. His incredible run also saw him clock a world-best time of 39:47 for 15km en route to his record-breaking finish, further proving his dominance in long-distance running.
Already established as a formidable force in the half marathon, this latest accomplishment cements Kiplimo’s status as one of the greatest endurance runners of his generation. His exceptional speed, endurance, and strategy continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in long-distance racing.
With this new world record, Kiplimo not only raises Uganda’s flag higher on the global athletics stage but also sets the bar for future long-distance runners aiming for greatness.
