AFCON 2025 Morocco: Uganda to face Two Winners of the Competition in Group C.

Uganda has been drawn against three-time(s) champions Nigeria, along with 2004 winners Tunisia and neighbours Tanzania according to the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Morocco 2025 Final draws held on Monday, 27 January in the Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat.

Uganda that was in Pot C along with Gabon, Angola, Zambia, Equatoria Guinea and Benin, will face the Super Eagles from Pot A, North Africans Tunisia from Pot B and neighbours Tanzania from Pot D to negotiate their way from the group.

Paul Put’s Uganda, will have a big mountain to climb, if they are to progress from the tough group C, facing a side Nigeria that have appeared in the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations on twenty occasions. Nigeria winning the title three times; in 1980 and they won a second title in the 1994, held in Tunisia. Nigeria won their third African title in 2013, held in South Africa.

Uganda will also face another African giant that has featured 21 times at the AFCON finals winning the competition in 2004.

Uganda has featured in 8 AFCON finals and Tanzania has only managed three times and are both yet to have a touch on it.

Group A will see hosts Morocco face West Africans Mali, Zambia and Comoros.

Group B action, will see record winners Egypt tackle South Africa, Angola and Zimbabwe.

Senegal will play Dr-Congo, Benin and Botswana in group D action.

Group E, will see Algeria face Burkina Faso, Equatorial Gunniea and under dogs Sudan.

In the title defending campaign, the Ivorians will face other west Africa big boys Cameroon, Gabon and Mozambique at the first stage of the competition.

Uganda has now qualified to AFCON eight times. These include;. 1962 1968 1972 1974, 1978, 2017, 2019, 2025.

The Final Draw saw 24 qualified teams placed into six groups each containing four sides for the 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026 tournament in Morocco.

For starters, pots were made according to their FIFA rankings, so Lot A has the top 5 ranked teams in Africa.

Morocco will host the 2025 AFCON for the first time since 1988.The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, also referred to as AFCON 2025 or CAN 2025, is scheduled to be the 35th edition of the biennial African football tournament organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). It will be hosted by Morocco for the second time and the first since 1988. Morocco was originally scheduled to host the 2015 edition, but withdrew due to fears stemming from the Western African Ebola virus epidemic.

African footballer of the year 1997 Mustapha Hadji, AFCON winner 2024 Surge Aurier, Senaegal Coach Alliou Cisse, 2013 AFCON winner Nigerian legend Joseph Yobo, were among the legends that graced the function in Rabat and helped conduct the draws.

Uganda was represented by Cranes Head Coach Paul Put amd FUFA National Teams’ Officer Paul Mukatabala at the function in Rabat.
