NEC FC Signs Alpha Ssali as They Strengthen Title Push
Uganda Premier League side NEC FC has officially announced the signing of winger Alpha Thierry Ssali, following the expiration of his contract with Express FC. The move comes after a difficult year for Ssali, who was benched for eight consecutive games under Coach James Kaddu at Express FC, a situation that limited his impact on the team.
Ssali was unveiled by NEC FC CEO Jonathan Okorutum on Sunday, marking the winger’s fresh start with a team currently challenging for the league title. NEC, under the guidance of Coach Hussein Mbalangu, is sitting second on the table with 34 points, just one point behind leaders Vipers SC.
Speaking at the unveiling, Ssali expressed his enthusiasm for joining the Lugogo-based club:
“I am happy to join this big club. Last season they surprised everyone as they challenged for the title. They have a big future, and I can’t wait to be part of it.”
Before joining NEC, Ssali was linked to a potential move to URA FC, but negotiations fell through. He then traveled to Spain under the Khaled Catalunya Management team, where he focused on improving his skills, fitness, and overall potential. While the trials in Spain did not result in an immediate international transfer, Ssali’s father, singer Bebe Cool, has long expressed hope for his son to eventually join the professional ranks abroad.
NEC’s management is reportedly keen on this vision, with sources suggesting that Ssali’s contract includes a clause facilitating a potential move to an international club in the future.
With NEC currently locked in a tight title race, Ssali’s arrival is expected to provide a boost to their squad as they contend with rivals Vipers SC for Uganda Premier League supremacy. The club’s ambition, coupled with Ssali’s skill set and determination to revive his career, positions both the player and the team for an exciting second half of the season.
