Lugazi FC has officially announced the signing of attacking midfielder Hussein Ssenoga from Buganda Regional League side Free Stars FC, beating off competition from Mbarara City to secure the talented playmaker. The 27-year-old has penned a one-year contract with the club and is set to join training with his new teammates immediately.
Ssenoga’s football journey has been remarkable, showcasing consistency and growth since his debut with Free Stars in 2011. In his first season, the young starlet made an instant impact, scoring six goals and providing two assists in 28 appearances, earning the “Youngest Player of the Season” award.
From there, Ssenoga’s career took an upward trajectory. In 2014, he moved to The Saints Football Club, where he further honed his craft in the FUFA Juniors League. A year later, his outstanding performances caught the eye of Hearts Kyebando United FC in the Kampala Regional League, where he was named the club’s “Most Influential Player” at the end of the season.
In 2017, Ssenoga returned to Free Stars FC, continuing to shine and winning the team’s “Player of the Season” award twice, in 2019 and 2020. His undeniable talent eventually earned him a move to the Uganda Premier League with Express FC in 2022, where he played for two years before returning to Free Stars at the start of this season.
Despite playing in the lower Buganda Regional League this season, Ssenoga has been in phenomenal form, scoring five goals and assisting four times in just nine first-round games. His creativity and ability to dictate the pace of a match were key factors in Lugazi FC’s pursuit of the midfielder.
Speaking about his move, Ssenoga expressed his excitement:
“I feel really excited and grateful to have joined this club. I have worked really hard in my career to be here, and I’m looking forward to getting on the pitch with this team.”
Sources indicate that Ssenoga was also on Mbarara City’s radar, with former coach Mbabazi reportedly keen on bringing the midfielder to the Ankole Lions. However, Lugazi FC acted swiftly to seal the deal.
Ssenoga’s addition brings experience, versatility, and a proven track record of delivering in critical moments. Lugazi FC’s technical team is confident that his presence will bolster their attacking options and help the club achieve its ambitions this season.
