Serbian tactician Dusan Stojanovic has mutually parted ways with Sports Club Villa after guiding the Jogoos to their 17th domestic league crown, the club’s first league title in two decades. The 38-year-old manager leaves behind a historic legacy, having achieved this remarkable feat less than a year into his tenure.
A Remarkable Journey
Stojanovic took over as head coach in June last year, replacing Jackson Mugera, who had been released by the club a season earlier. His arrival brought renewed hope and vigor to the club, culminating in a nail-biting finish to the season. Villa were declared league champions with 57 points, narrowly edging out BUL and Vipers, who both finished with 56 points.
In his departure statement, Stojanovic expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the SC Villa club management, led by President Hajji Omar Ahmed Mandela, players, coaching staff, FUFA leadership, officials, media, and the fans. He highlighted the unity and dedication that fueled their success.
Stojanovic’s Reflections
“Since my arrival into the SC Villa family in June 2023, my blood turned blue, and I started living my life for our team, committed to being a club servant and dedicated to being a team soldier in order to return a sense of pride to the VILLA badge and bring it back to the top of Ugandan football,” Stojanovic said.
He fondly recalled his experience in Uganda, describing it as a “roller coaster journey” that allowed him to immerse himself in Ugandan culture, tradition, and the beauty of football in the country. Under his leadership, Villa reclaimed the Uganda Premier League trophy that had been elusive for 20 years, making it their 17th league title.
Personal Challenges and Departure
Despite the triumph, personal challenges have led Stojanovic to return home to Belgrade, Serbia. He took the opportunity to express his wholehearted gratitude and sincere respect to all the great people he worked with and competed against during his 14 months in Uganda.
“Special thanks to the management of SC Villa, led by President Hajji Omar Ahmed Mandela, for all the practical and declarative support they have given me throughout my stay. Under their guidance, I grew as a human being and football coach,” Stojanovic remarked.
He also extended his deep thanks to all members of the SC Villa technical team, supporting staff, and the Mandela group of companies for their selfless service. His appreciation for the SC Villa players was particularly heartfelt, as he acknowledged their commitment and dedication to the team.
Legacy and Farewell
Stojanovic’s impact on SC Villa is undeniable. He became the second Serbian national, after Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic, to win the national league for the club. His tenure is marked by a return to glory for SC Villa, and his influence will be remembered fondly by the Villa faithful.
“As I close my SC Villa chapter, I will forever remain kindly yours in love for the football game and authentic respect for SC Villa, staying Jogoo forever,” Stojanovic concluded.
