SC Villa breathes fire into final day with hope of breaking 20 years jinx against NEC FC
After stumbling on the final day of last season, SC Villa is determined to avoid a repeat performance when they face NEC on Saturday at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
S villa went into the last day of the 2022/23 season in the lead but lost 1-0 to URA, allowing Vipers to clinch a back to back title for the first time in their history.
With 54 points, Villa is just one point ahead of both BUL and Vipers, and three points ahead of fourth-placed Kitara—teams that all have a chance to win the league if Dusan Stojanovic’s men falter.
Jeans Braddy Wokorach, who played a key role in NEC’s promotion to the top tier last season, is confident as he prepares to face his former club. He has called on fans to support the Blues.
We understand the importance of Saturday’s game,” he told the club website. “We are aware of our opponent’s abilities, but the game will be about us. We must win by all means,” he added.
The fans have been an integral part of our journey, and I urge them to be there tomorrow.”
At the Fufa Technical Centre in Njeru, BUL will host local rivals Busoga United, with both teams eager for victory for different reasons.
A win for BUL could secure their first league title if Villa drops points, while a victory for Busoga United would ensure their survival, relegating Gaddafi and UPDF in the process.
At St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende, reigning champions Vipers host a tricky Mbarara City, knowing they must secure three points to have a chance of defending their title. However, they also need Villa and BUL to drop points.
Kitara, who host relegation candidates Gaddafi, will aim for a win. If Villa, BUL, and Vipers all lose, Kitara could claim the title.
For Gaddafi, a win at Masindi Municipal Stadium is crucial, and they will be hoping BUL defeats Busoga United.
