The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has unveiled Castle Lite as the proud title sponsor of the National Basketball League, marking an exciting development for basketball enthusiasts across the country.
In a formal announcement made during a press briefing at Fairway Hotel in Kampala on Thursday morning, FUBA disclosed that Castle Lite has committed to infuse 500 million Uganda shillings into the league, solidifying their partnership in the basketball arena.
Douglas Karema, a Marketing Executive at Nile Breweries, expressed enthusiasm about Castle Lite’s foray into basketball, emphasizing Nile Breweries’ steadfast dedication to nurturing various sports disciplines nationwide.
“Nile Breweries stands as a leading supporter of sports in Uganda, spanning football, rugby, pool, and now basketball. We are thrilled to announce Castle Lite as the proud sponsor of basketball for one year, with potential for renewal based on performance. The sponsorship, valued at 500 million, reflects our commitment to the growth and prosperity of basketball,” Karema remarked.
Of the total sponsorship sum, 200 million Uganda shillings will be provided directly to FUBA, underscoring Castle Lite’s substantial investment in the league. Additionally, a portion of the funds will be allocated to participating clubs in the National Basketball League, with the league champion guaranteed prize money.
Marcus Kwikiriza, CEO of FUBA, underscored the importance of alleviating the financial burdens faced by club owners, recognizing their pivotal role in advancing the sport.
“Team owners shoulder significant responsibilities, and sustaining a basketball team entails considerable financial strain. Hence, a portion of the sponsorship funds will be channeled to the clubs. As the FUBA executive, we are committed to collaboratively determining how best to support clubs, facilitating smoother operations and enhancing their ability to manage day-to-day affairs,” Kwikiriza affirmed.
