Nakivubo stadium set for 1st June opening to the public
Following years of extensive reconstruction, Nakivubo Stadium, also known as Hamz Stadium, is poised to unveil its doors to the public on June 1st, 2024.
The grand inauguration of this versatile venue promises a day brimming with exhilarating sporting spectacles, featuring a lineup of two football test matches and two boxing bouts.
Kicking off the football festivities, URA will face off against Kitara at 4:00pm, followed by a highly anticipated friendly match between Express FC and SC Villa at 7:00pm, illuminated by the stadium’s dazzling floodlights.
Transitioning to the boxing arena within the stadium premises, spectators will witness riveting showdowns, with Isaac Zebra Ssenyange squaring off against Kitaka Ibrahim, while the renowned Golola Moses will engage in a thrilling encounter with Umaru Semata.
Nakivubo Stadium’s journey to its current state began in 2017 when it was closed down for extensive renovations. Undergoing a remarkable transformation, the stadium now boasts state-of-the-art amenities, including an all-seater design, an artificial playing surface, netball courts, a basketball court, a boxing arena, a gym, and VIP executive boxes, among other impressive features.
The official commissioning of Nakivubo Stadium took place on Thursday, April 25th, with President Yoweri Museveni presiding over the ceremony. This ambitious rehabilitation project was spearheaded by Ugandan businessman Hamis Kiggundu, marking a significant milestone in the country’s sporting infrastructure development.
