Yunus Jnr Ssentamu and Abdu Karim Watambala scored the all important goals for the Venoms to defeat fierce rivals SC Villa in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League game played on Tuesday 29th November 2022 at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende.
Forward Ssentamu and midfielder Watambala scored in either half for the Venoms to take home maximum points.
Vipers’ hitman found the back of the net in the 21st minute with a simple tap in when he capitalized on goal Keeper Meddie Kibirige collusion with his defenders.
Substitute Watambala doubled the lead in the 87th minute with a trade mark long range shot.
There was an earlier claim for a penalty from the hosts when captain Gift Fred handled Karisa but referee Ssali Mashood wasn’t interested.
Midfielder Anukani made the first scare in the 1st minute of the game but couldn’t find the target.
Pacy winger Kakande got an opportunity on the other side to give the visitors the lead but was denied by goal Keeper Mukendereza.
Shortly, to the half time mark, energetic forward Batte also got an opportunity to level the scoreline but his strong short was blocked by Juuko.
SC Villa’s no 10 Lutalo made the visitors’ second attempt but his long range effort went inches off the mark on the 16th minute.
Defensive midfielder Davis Sekajja was shown matching orders on a second bookable offence early in the second half for reckless play on Karisa having been booked in the 7th minute.
Villa goalkeeper Kibirige looked uncomfortable again in 45th minute when he gifted Karisa with the ball in the 18 yard box but the speedy winger failed to capitalize on it.
Left back Musana got two second half chances denied on both occasions by goalie Mukendereza and Travis Mutyaba shot was pushed out.
The hosts brought on Lawal, Yiga Najib and Abdu Karim Watambala for Yunus, Anukani and Orit respectively.
Bbale was also denied by Mukendereza for an equaliser when he made a strong run with a few minutes left on the clock.
Rwothomio was also denied by goalkeeper Kibirige to double the lead for the hosts.
Villa brought on Travis Mutyaba, Charles Bbale and Mohammed Nsereko but couldn’t make a difference.
Abdul Karim Watambala was named Pilsner Man of the match.
The Venoms have elevated to second position after match day 10 games with 21 points a point behind leaders Wakiso Giants.
The Jogoos drop to 7th position with 14 points.
