
AFCON 2021: Former England Star Steven Caulker Makes Sierra Leone Debut Against Vs Algeria.
Steven Caulker only Represented England once in a friendly against Sweden on 14 November and scored a debut goal under manager Roy Hogson.
Many eyes will be on Turkish club Gaziantep experienced defender Steven Caulker as under dogs Sierra Leone take on Algeria at 16:00hrs in the 2021 Total energies Africa Cup of nations group E clash.
The 31 year old makes his Internatioal debut for Sierra leone in the Africa Cup of nations against one of the favorites aftet switching allegiance.
In October 2021, Caulker announced he was awaiting clearance from FIFA to switch allegiances from England to Sierra Leone.
Caulker born in Feltham in the London spent his youth playing time at Totenham hotspurs.
He represented England at Under age U19 im 200-10 and England U21 and managed two goals in the ten appearances.
He also represented Great Britain at the 2012 Olympic games.
He also represented the African country in an un-official, non-FIFA sanctioned friendly against a team of local Moroccan footballers which Sierra Leone lost 2–1.
On 17 December, Caulker received clearance, from FIFA, making him eligible to play in the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
Three days later, he was included in Sierra Leone’s extended Africa Cup of Nations squad, and ten days after the call-up was included in the final squad.
In November 2013, then Scotland assistant manager Mark McGhee confirmed interest in Caulker, as Caulker’s grandmother, Jessie, comes from Dollar, Clackmannanshire. Since his only full England cap was in a friendly, he is permitted to change allegiances.
In March 2018, Caulker declared his desire to play for Scotland.
His then manager at Dundee, Neil McCann, said, “I would love him to pull on the dark blue for Scotland.”
In October 2019, Caulker contacted then Scotland assistant manager, Steven Reid, to express his desire to play for Scotland.
In December 2020, Caulker expressed his desire to play international football “whether that be for England or Scotland”.
Caulker has played for Totenham Hotspurs, Cardif, Fenabache, Liverpool, Bristol, Swansea, QPR , Southampton, Alanyaspor, Dundee United.
