Ten-man Busiro registered a narrow 2-1 win against Bugerere in the opening game of the Bulange (third) group of the 2021 Buganda Masaza Cup at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Thursday.
Herbert Kibirango and Robert Sentongo’s goals placed Busiro in the lead before Hudson Mbalire scored a consolation goal for Bugerere.
In the eighth minute, forward Herbert Kibirango was released by Rogers Adriko on the right flank and his low powerful shot found the back of the net, leaving Bugerere’s custodian Eddy Kalema on his feet.
Six minutes later, pacy winger Ronald Kaye was tripped in the dangerous area by Bugerere’s defender Peter Magimbi for a penalty.
Robert Ssentongo stepped up to take the challenge but the referee cancelled it due to an offside, but however, he still scored the second take and extended Busiro’s lead.
In the 16th minute, Hudson Mbalire’s volley shot at the far post off Cliton Asiimwe’s cross went into the net past Busiro’s custodian James Junior Tukei whose full stretch was a little late.
Later on, Samir Mudiba was shown a red card for a bad tackle.
In the second stanza, there was less of action since Busiro preferred to sit back and defend their first half lead.
At the end of the game, Busiro took an early lead of the Bulange group with three points and a one goal advantange.
Busiro will return to action on Friday December 10, against Kyaggwe at 3 pm while Bugerere will play Buvuma at midday on the same day.
