Eric Kenzo Kambale and Godfrey Lwesibawa goals in either half were enough for defending Champions Express to bag three important points in the StarTimes Uganda Premier game played at Betway Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku.
The Red eagles got their forth win of the season against the Ankole lions to elevate to sixth place with fifteen points gathered from nine games.
Kambale found the opener for the hosts with a well struck penalty in the 26th minute after Raymond Walugembe was brought down in the area by Ronald Otti.
Pacy Winger Lwesibawa sealed the much needed win for Wasswa Bbosa side in the 86th minute when he was set up by substitute Senkaaba who held the ball so well.
Kambale, Lwesibawa and Midfielder Charles Musige got Express’ other first half chances but could not extend the lead.
The visitors didnot create many scoring chances, but agile forward Henry Kitegenyi and Jude Semugabi often looked sharp infront of goal but were denied close opportunities.
Hussein Mbalangu’s men looked a better side in the opening minutes of the second half, pressed high for an equaliser but center backs Murushid Juuko and Isa Lumu were up for the task.
Express head coach Wasswa Bbosa pointed at team work for the three points.
We’re happy we picked up this win today, we used our chances and played as a unit. The boys knew we needed to win because that’s the only way we have to keep going up the table, we now we’re going back to plan better and prepare for our next game (away to URA FC).” he told Expressfc.co.ug
Defender Isa Lumu, welcomed the win as a morale boasting factor ahead of the tough away URA FC crash.
Massive win for us today, the boys followed the instructions to the dot and for me this motivates us more as we prepare for our next game away to URA FC. Individually I am happy that i won the man of the match award, it will definitely keep me going”.
The win elevated Express to sixth position and the Ankole Lions are 9th placed with just 10 points collected from nine outings.
The Ankole lions host the caterpillars in their next outing and Express will have a tough travel to the tax collectors in Ndejje on Saturday.
