Kibuli Senior Secondary School, Gombe High School and Uganda Matyrs Lubaga were impressive on day one of Uganda Secondary School Sports Association Kampala District Qualifiers played on Monday at Old Kampala SS.
In the biggest game on the day, Giants Kibuli SS thumped home side Old Kampala 3-0 in the evening last game.
Midfielder Abdul Kalanzi bagged a brace and Joseph Ogwang completed the scoring against former big boys O.K.
In the opening game at 9am, Kibuli needed a late strike to salvage a point against Travis Mutyaba’s Gombe High School in a game that ended 1-1.
The SC Villa midfielder with his magical left foot was a thorn in Kibuli’s fresh the whole evening and was brought down in the area and Yasiri Mimosa scored the resultant freekick that gave Gombe High the lead until Abdul Kalanzi levelled late for Kibuli.
Gombe High won their second game on the day against St Mary’s and managed to collect 4 points from two games just like Kibuli.
Another SC Villa player Oscar Mawa shined in this one scoring a brace to increase on their chances of making out of the group.
In this tricky group, Gombe face Old Kampala in a do or die game for O.K and Kibuli face minnows St Mary’s in the last group games.
Old Kampala in their first game beat St Mary’s 2-0. Nsereko Abubaker and Eric Onyanga were on target.
Old Kampala (3 points) need maximum points against Gombe and a draw will be enough for Gombe to get into the quarter finals.
In the other Group, Uganda Matyrs, Lubaga played a single game which they won 3-0 against Kololo H/S and will play Kakungulu and Kawempe Muslim in the other two games today Tuesday at Kibuli SS.
Karim Sengonzi, Aliaka Jordan and danger man Patrick Kakande scored for Uganda Matyrs Lubaga.
Kawempe Muslim drew with Kakungulu memorial 0-0 in the morning 9am fixture played at the lower ground at O.K
Kawempe Muslim beat Kololo 2-0 and their last group game will be against Uganda Matyrs today Tuesday at Kibuli SS.
Kampala district Qaulifiers matchday two games, resume on Tuesday at Kibuli SS with the last group game fixtures and the top two teams will qualify for the quarter finals.
The semi-finals and finals will be played on Wednesday at Old Kampala.
Old Kampala SS play grounds are hosting USSSA girls football games today.
