FIFA U-17 Women World Cup Qualifiers India 2022

  • Uganda 2-2 Ethiopia

Uganda Women U-17 national team threw away a two goal lead with just eleven minutes of normal time to play to share spoils with Ethiopia in the U-17 World Cup qualifier game played at St Mary’s stadium Kitende.

Hadijah Nandago scored in the 66th and 72nd  for the hosts and later Emush Daniel Dandamo pulled out back in the 79th minute and Semira Kedir Ahimed levelled in the 91st minute to draw 2 -2

Kamiyati using her electric pace proved to be the most dangerous among Uganda’s forwards causing problems and no body was there to dangerousconnect to her well delivered cross in the 26th minute.

Coach Khalifa recieved a blow early in the second half when central defender Patience Nabulobi had to be replaced by Namusoke before half time after colliding with forward Emush Daniel.

The visitors also got two first half chances to take the lead but Meseret Mamo was denied by goalkeeper Kaidu and striker Emush failed to beat Kaidu and sent his effort over the goal post.

Hadija Nandago could as well have given the hosts a first half lead but she missed to head in Nagadya’s well crafted corner.

Before Nandago scored, Uganda’s early Second half chances fell to Nagadya and Kamiyati but both couldn’t convert them.

Ethiopia coach was delighted with the away draw coming from behind.

We have got a point we had to press hard to get an away point we are very happy with a point that’s why we celebrated with Ethiopian dances.

Uganda had some good players their Captain (Shakira) as excellent and their number 10( Hadijah Nandago).

Uganda coach Khalifa was unhappy with the result but promised to improve as they head into the return leg in two weeks time.

I thank God who has enabled us handle the 90 minutes we have not won but picked a point which is a positive, from the start the kids tried to play well, the goal keeper didnot have a good day in ofdice were lucky to get a poin, it was unfortunate that we lost a defender early, it’s really very painful reaching that far, we are going to do alit of revision heading into the second leg.
